Hello, my name is Benjamin Souferi and I am the son of Iranian-Jewish refugees here in New York. I am currently in the BS/MS program in Biology at CCNY and I study the development of cone photoreceptors in Dr. Mark Emerson's Laboratory. After earning the Olivia McKenna Award and the Sharon Cosloy Scholarship, I felt encouraged to join the Biology Department's Biology Club so that I may give back to the department, and most importantly, my fellow underclassmen. I hope that my experience as an executive of the Caduceus Premedical Society and the Volunteer Emergency Services will assist me in organizing events and providing students access to the numerous opportunities that the Biology Department has to offer. My ultimate ambitions are to become a physician so that I may give back to humankind, and to continue conducting research so that I may give back to science.

Please, feel free to reach out to us for any questions or comments you may have! We would also love to provide you with any advice we have to offer as you pursue your degree in Biology!

Hello, I am Georgio Malouf. I am very excited to serve the 2015-2016 Biology Executive Board as Co-President. Through my growing experiences at City College, including being a BS/MS Biology student and the former President of the Volunteer Emergency Services, I see the potential of this institution and the student body it empowers. This potential for greatness is what drives me to dedicate myself to the continuous improvement of the student experience. I am honored to be part of an organization that shares my mission. In the coming year, I will increase the accessibility of professional opportunities to science students by instating a database-driven website. Additionally, the Executive Board will be expanding collaboration between the Biology Club and other professional organizations located both inside and outside of City College. My leadership positions, internships, and volunteer experiences have transformed me into a more well-rounded, mature person and furthermore help better prepare me for Medical School. My involvement in scientific research in Dr. Michael Hickerson’s laboratory provides a direct implementation of the scientific concepts I was exposed to in the classroom. Prior to my experiences, I was just a student majoring in Biology–a spectator to the scientific and medical fields. After my introduction to laboratory research, my grades increased. I was also accepted into the prestigious Bachelor of Science/Masters of Science accelerated program in Biology, developed a newfound interest and appreciation for the biological sciences, and secured a lab manager position. Suddenly, I was immersed in the study of medicine and the science of life–no longer just a biology student. I hope to give back to the Science Division at CCNY by helping students access their full potential and aid the Biology Club in giving life to science.
