Hello, my name is Jennifer Shin and I am really excited to be part of the 2019-2020 Biology Club E-Board. During my two years in City College as a biochemistry-biology double major student, I’ve experienced the importance of organizations such as the Biology Club for the student experience. Especially in a commuter college like City College, it is very easy to solely focus on your studies and lose touch with the college community. Thus, as a member of the executive board, I hope to work on developing collaborative relationships with more clubs in an effort to foster a united and integrated student body. Furthermore, working as a tutor, I realize the impact and influence one student can have on another and vice versa. I have seen the experience of pursuing the sciences at City of both me and my peers drastically increase through being exposed to the right resources available in the school. Biology Club has been one of those resources for me, personally. I plan to work on expanding the club’s presence on campus and make it known that the Biology Club is a space where students can access like-minded and driven students as well as useful information in their academic and professional pursuits. My favorite part about City College is the wide array of opportunities to do research. Currently, I am working in Professor Ranajeet Ghose’s structural biology lab. Furthermore, over the 2019 Summer, I will be spearheading my own project under the NSF B3 REU Fellowship. In the near future, I hope to either become a neurosurgeon or a pioneer in neurological research.
